PineTone works without an account, and without one nothing about you leaves your browser. Signing in with Google is optional. This page says what changes if you do.

Who runs this

PineTone, the browser simulator of Mosi Audio's instrument, is run by Mosi Audio, which is responsible for the data described here. Questions and requests about your data go to the project's issue tracker. Please do not post personal details there; say you want to be contacted privately and you will be.

Without an account

Your progress (notes played, streak, milestones and discoveries), your settings and any scores you import are stored in your browser's own storage on your device. They are not sent anywhere. There are no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and nothing is loaded from any other website: the fonts and sounds are served by PineTone itself.

You can download all of it as one backup file from Settings. Reset everything, in Settings, clears your progress and settings; imported scores each have their own remove button; and your browser's own controls clear all of it.

If you sign in with Google

Signing in keeps a copy of your progress, settings and scores with your account, so they follow you to every device you sign in on. We receive from Google only your name, email address and profile photo address, which is what the openid, email and profile permissions allow. We never see your Google password and never use any other Google service on your behalf.

What the account keeps:

• Your Google name, email, profile photo address and the display name you choose.
• Your progress, kept as one record for each device you play on, so that devices can be combined without counting anything twice.
• The settings that follow you (voice, scale, labels and tuning). The layout dials stay on each device.
• The scores you import, up to 24.
• Your sign-in sessions: when they started, the browser they were made in and its IP address, kept to keep your account secure and removed when a session ends or expires.

Before the first sign-in we ask your birth year. It is used only to decide whether an account can be made, and it is not sent to us or stored anywhere but your own browser.

Why, and on what basis

The account exists to do what you asked for when you signed in: keep your progress on every device. That is the basis for holding it (performing the service you requested). Session records are kept for the security of your account (a legitimate interest). Nothing is used for advertising, sold, or shared with anyone for their own purposes.

Where it is kept

The account's data is stored with Cloudflare, which runs PineTone's server and storage, and which may process it outside your country. Google handles the sign-in itself under its own privacy policy. Neither is permitted to use your data for anything but providing this service.

How long

For as long as you have an account. Deleting your account (Settings, then Delete account) removes it and everything it keeps straight away: your profile, the progress from every device, synced settings and scores. What is in your browser stays until you clear it. An account that has not been signed in to for two years will be deleted.

Your rights

You can download everything your account holds, as one file, from Settings (Download account data). You can change your display name there, and delete your account there. If you live in the UK or the European Union you also have the right to object, to ask for any correction, and to complain to your data protection authority.

Cookies

Signed in, your browser keeps one cookie that says which account you are, and a short-lived one while Google sign-in is in progress. They are sent only to PineTone's own /api address, are not readable by scripts, and are strictly necessary for signing in, which is why there is no cookie banner. There are no other cookies.

Children

PineTone is made for a general audience. Accounts are only for players 13 and over, and anyone younger can use everything without one. If you believe a child under 13 has made an account, tell us through the contact above and it will be deleted.

Changes

If this changes in a way that matters, the date above changes and the app will say so the next time you open it signed in.
